Loader Compressor (Tractair)

Introduction
Every year many operatives are injured or killed whilst operating mobile plant and equipment. All drivers of any plant and equipment should be aged 18 or over, adequately trained, competent and authorised to operate plant. This course is designed to provide candidates with theoretical knowledge and practical training to safely operate a loader compressor (tractair) as required by current legislation.

Aims
By the end of the course all delegates will:

  • Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
  • Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation.
  • Carry out pre-start and running checks on the vehicle and compressor.
  • Set the machine for site travel.
  • Travel over differing types of terrain, including rough, undulating ground.
  • Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction.
  • Explain precautions to be taken for underground services and other hazards.
  • Position and prepare machine for compressed air tool operation, taking into account environmental considerations.
  • Ensure machine integrity and security when using compressor systems.
  • Carry out compressed air operations.
  • Recognise and respond to given signals or instructions.
  • Carry out compressor shut-down procedures.
  • Put machine in an out-of-service condition.
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter.
  • Explain safety considerations when dealing with compressed air operations.

Who should attend?
Any person required to operate a loader compressor (tractair) within their workplace or wishing to improve their operating skills and knowledge.

Course content
Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974, PUWER and other related legislation, pre-operational checks and daily maintenance, battery care and refueling procedures, mobility and stability factors, safety rules applicable to operating, operate all controls safely and sympathetically, excavating from an embankment, building stockpiles, safety loading vehicles or hoppers, compressed air safety and use of compressor, shut-down procedures.

Experienced Operatives (*Assessments Only) 1 Day - 6 Delegates
Novices 4 Days - 4 Delegates

* = delegates will be profiled prior to assessment to check their operating experience

Outcome
Successful delegates will be issued with a Certificate of Achievement.
