Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (Vehicle mounted)

Introduction
Every year many operatives are injured or killed whilst operating mobile plant and equipment. All operators of any plant and equipment should be aged 18 or over, adequately trained, competent and authorised to operate plant. This course is designed to provide candidates with theoretical knowledge and practical training to safely operate a mobile elevating work platform (vehicle mounted) as required by current legislation.

Aims
By the end of the course all delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the basic construction and components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
  • Identify and comply with manufactures instruction in accordance with the operators handbook, other information sources i.e. duty charts and applicable legislation
  • Explain all relevant documentation
  • Explain all displayed information on the machine/vehicle
  • Carry out pre-start and running checks
  • Carry out emergency lowering procedures
  • Operate controls from ground level and from within the working platform
  • Manoeuvre the vehicle involving tight turns and limited access, using both forward and reverse motions
  • Position the platform up to maximum working height
  • Keep within safe working parameters
  • Place the machine in an out-of-service condition

Who should attend?
Personnel who are required to operate Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (vehicle mounted) within their workplace or wishing to improve their operating skills and knowledge. Delegates must hold the relevant driving license.

Course content
Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and other relevant legislation such as PUWER and LOLER regulations, pre-operational checks and daily maintenance, battery care and refueling procedures, mobility, positioning and stability factors, safety rules applicable to operating, hydraulic controls, emergency lowering procedure, shut-down procedures

Experienced Operatives (*Assessments Only) 1 Day - 6 Delegates
Novices (including Safety Awareness Course) 3 Days - 4 Delegates

* = delegates will be profiled prior to assessment to check their operating experience

Outcome
Successful delegates will be issued with a Certificate of Achievement

Personal Protective Equipment Required:
Safety Helmet, High Viz Vest, Safety Boots, and Fall Restraint Harness
