Small Power Tools

Introduction
This course develops the skills and knowledge needed to operate portable hands tools and to gain a fundamental understanding of current legislation and regulations that encompass these skills and the need to work safety at all times.

Aims

By the end of the course all delegates will:

  • Be able to carry out a suitable and sufficient risk assessment
  • Explain the relevant safety requirements and procedures for safe operation of hand tools
  • Define Hand Arm Vibration syndrome, describe the symptoms and state who is at risk and how this condition can be prevented
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
  • Demonstrate safe operation of identified power tools
  • Carry out General maintenance on power tools.

Who should attend?
Any personnel required to operate small power tools at work

Course content

  • Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974, Section 2 – 7 & 8
  • Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
  • Risk Assessments
  • Hand – Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
  • Safe operation of power tools
  • General maintenance.

Personal Protective Equipment Required:

Safety Helmet, High Viz Vest, Safety Boots
